The Vacaville
Lady
Knights
started this jamboree playing
against a more experienced team who
completely dominated the game. The
game was played at the Lone Tree
Park in Rocklin at 6 PM on a hot
afternoon. This park has a mini
water playing area with a playground
set, that allowed our girls to enjoy
the whole event.
Sarah, the "Princess"
and Taylor "Tay" alternated as
goalies, our defensive line was
composed by Natalie "Natty", Jessica
"Jessy" and Veronica "Vero". Our
defenders and goalies worked extra
hard trying to contain the opponent
who were able to break our defensive
line by fast runs on the sidelines.
Madeline "Maddy" alternated as a
defender.
The
Lady
Knights
midfield
line was composed by Alexandra
"Ally" and Emily "Emmy", they both
tried to set the pace of the game,
but were constantly beating to the
ball by the Folsom Pride players. It
seemed like any time our players
were ready to take the ball, an
opponent applied constant pressure
and were able to maintain possession
of the ball throughout the game. Tay
also alternated as a midfielder.
Shellby "Shell",
Jurnee "Buda" and Amanda "Mandy"
played up front as the
Lady
Knights
forwards creating few scoring
opportunities. The opponent outshot
our team 15 to 2. Our team gave
several throw ins an corner kicks.
The first Folsom
Pride goal came from a direct kick,
after one of our midfielders touch
the ball with her hand. The free
kick was powerful and to the left
side of our goalie. However, our
girls were able to fight for the
ball, and in a series of rebounds,
Jurnee received the ball from a
rebound at midfield and with the
characteristic speed beat one
defender and fired a shot scoring
the equalizer. The opponent became
stronger as the game continued and
continue to add pressure to the
game. After a series of passes on
the right side of the field, a fast
run and a cross found a player
unmarked, this player just placed
the ball to the right side of our
goalie, scoring the second goal
before the end of the first half.
The second half
featured the same intensity from the
opponent. They came back determined
to win the game and created several
scoring opportunities, luckily our
defenders and goalie were able to
deflect their shots. A third goal
was added at the middle of the
second half. It started with a throw
in, a Folsom Pride player took
control of the ball and sent a wide
pass crossing the field from the
right to the middle, then another
player just took a shot beating our
goalie.
With 5 minutes
before the end of the game, another
fast run on the left side of the
field allowed a Folsom Pride player
to take a shot to the left side of
our goalie, scoring the last goal of
the game. Overall, the
Lady
Knights
players were able to do their
best and play hard. It was a great
experience after all to see the
areas that we need to improve in
this pre-season.
