The Andean-contemporary feeling is reflected in the existence of hundreds of folkloric groups spread in many countries worldwide. The Peruvian groups devote their art to cultivate the Andean music which portrays the Peruvian and Andean culture, with both Andean (zampoñas, quenas, charangos, bombos, quenachos, tarkas, chac-chas, toyos, etc.) and traditional instruments (guitars, harps, violins, flutes). These melodies, are compiled from a diversity of corners throughout our country and other South American countries and brought to us with a polished and more contemporary musical trend.

A TI

A melody with the rhythm and flavor of the Andes. The lyris belong to Lucho Medina, with the music and arrangement of Manuel García. This melody is included in the CD labeled "Festejo desde la Piel" produced by the well known Grupo Alturas. The Andean man, using a methaphoric figure, calls his beloved as if was the most tender and sweet element that exists in nature. As the son of the sun, earth and mountains, the Andean man sings to his sweet dove, his precious flower, introducing in his own peculiar way, his language of love that intents to reflect this poetry. The midi is courtesy of the Group Alturas. You may visit the Alturas website at http://www.grupoalturas.com

Marcahuasi

A beautiful version of this melody portraying the cold air of the highlands. It was composed by Marco García with the arrangements of Manuel García. The magic of the time, wind, rain, cold and the calmness present around the high peaks of the Andes, make this a musical landscape where the daylight and the reflection of the night, magnify the Andean ancestors. The spirits of the Andean ancestors sail and fly in a dream surrounding the Marcahuasi peak. This melody is included in the Alturas CD entitled "Festejo desde la Piel" del grupo Alturas.

Sonqoy "Mi corazón"  (My Heart)

This is a melancholic yaraví, with a contemporary style. It uses the penta-phonic scale and a tertiary rhythm within a binary framework. The Andean moan of the quena and the rhythm produced by the strokes of the guitar and charango awaken the pain of an enamored heart.

Kuntur Wachana "Donde Nacen los Cóndores"  (Where the Condors are born)

This is the theme of the movie "Donde Nacen los Cóndores". Celso Garrido Lecca composed this song. It reflects the Peruvian movement to rescue the popular versions of melodies, even with a Quechua origin in order to project them to the community through media communications, in this case, the cinema.

The typical Peruvian landscape of the Andes mountain range depicts abundant mountain-tops covered by ice. This melody, called Alturas "heights" transmits the lonely melancholic feeling of the Andes highlands which is so characteristic of the music of this area. It includes a typical counterpoint between the strings (charango) and Andean pan pipes (zampoña) instruments.

Susurro (Whisper)

Another song also made popular by "Los Uros" musical group. This title is also included in their first Album along with Titicaca, as mentioned above. It was written by Rodolfo Parada, from Quilapayun, a re-known Chilean folkloric group. Again the melancholic feeling is present, which it's so typical in this musical style. We thank Roberto Oswaldo Guardado, from El Salvador, who provided us with the real names for the melodies performed by The Uros.
