Studies
He studied the primary level (grades 2°, 3°, 4° and
5°) in Chiclín with his brother Jesús, whereas grade 1° and 6° he studied in the OLD
CENTER of Trujillo.
In Chiclin, Don Juan and Doña Rosa, alowed his children
- Juan and Jesús - to take music lessons with a music teacher. First he was the Maestro
Rafael Quesquén and later the Maestro Santiago Zavaleta in the city of Ascope,
Departamento de la Libertad. Juan began with the violin and Jesús with the guitar.
Both brothers studied Secondary in the National School
of San Juan de Trujillo. His brother Juan, parallelly with his studies, continued with his
guitar. First studying our Peruvian music and when he entered the National Conservatory of
Music he followed it with classic music. As soon he finished in the conservatory, Jesus
travels to the city of Mexico to continue guitar studies. Thanks to a SCHOLARSHIP he went
to Italy and studied in the SCALA of Milan, where he had as his professor ANDRES SEGOVIA.
Jesus doctored in music and became one of best the Concert Players of Classical Guitar.
Whereas Juan Benites Reyes dedicated itself to the
Composition and acquired Musical books of Musical Arrangements, to study them and to
analyze them. Also he purchased musical scores to make a musical analysis of the same
ones. Juan used to put discs, to listen to them and at the same time transcribe them, that
is to say, to write the music in the staff to compare it with what he had written with the
scores. This process helped him to develop a deep musical analysis. He considers himself a
SELF-TAUGHT PERSON. Later he studied Harmony with the Spanish Catholic Priest David
Martinez.

El Maestro, JUAN BENITES REYES, is the CREATOR of the Marinera Trujillana, which it is a northern marinera. This marinera has been born in Trujillo, but which it is different from the other northern marineras already known.
His inspiration let him participate in the Concurso Nacional de Marinera, organized every year by the CLUB LIBERTAD, Trujillian tradition. It was in 1981, when he began to compose marineras, but he wanted a different kind. He also wanted to see the couples "dance" without any restrictions, including long notes in the melody to allow the couple develop its own dance.
Thus in 1982, he releases his "Marinera Trujillana", played for the first time in the Capital of the Marinera. It is indeed in the courts of the Club Libertad, executed by the Army Band. From that moment it arises a new marinera different from the others. You see a site where brilliantly the pairs and all the dancers made their favorite moves.
In 1983, , the Program of Spanish Television "Los 300 Millones" " world-wide spread when choosing a taking to it, indeed, of the Concurso Nacional de Marinera de Trujillo, where it is, danced for the first time by Youthful the National Champions of Lima: Manuel Gutiérrez Ch. and la señorita Lita Deza Valdivia. From that moment the marinera trujillana "ASI BAILA MI TRUJILLANA"", is danced in the contest all over Peru, became famous, although at that time she had not been recorded in any record seal.
In 1984, made OFICIALIZADA for the National contest of the Marinera, and in 1985, being madeofficial, was OBLIGADA for the FINAL and only define to the CHAMPIONS in the three categories: Infantile, Youthful and Adult.

dedication to music and mainly to heighten the name of the TRUJILLO, he has constituted in
TRUJILLANO PRIDE, and NACIONAL PRIDE.
